A father’s dream, 25 years in the making

Babylon Kabob is more than a restaurant. It is the continuation of a dream that started more than 25 years ago.

Our father, Mohammed Alshara, always had a passion for food, hospitality and bringing people together. Years ago he opened a restaurant with a partner, The Baghdad Restaurant in Dearborn, to share authentic, flavorful halal food with the community.

After a falling out in that partnership, the business was put on the shelf. What could have been the end of the story became a long pause in a dream that never went away.

For 25 years that dream stayed alive in our family. As his four sons grew up, we came to understand not just the food and the culture behind it, but the sacrifice, passion and vision our dad carried all those years.

When the time was right, the four brothers came together with one mission: bring our father’s dream back to life and keep a promise we had carried since we were kids.

When the time was right, we decided to bring that dream back to life for him. That is how Babylon Kabob was born.

Built on family, resilience and pride in our Iraqi roots, Babylon Kabob is our way of honoring our father’s journey. On April 7, 2025, the dream became real. A tasting party before opening drew close to 300 friends and family.

Today we serve Canton, the place we call home, with fresh Zabiha halal food made with tradition, care and real hospitality. Mohammed is also known for his generosity: every year he cooks and donates thousands of kabobs to mosques in Dearborn. That spirit is in everything we do.
